In the 90's Blackhawk consistently put out top 40 singles. Every Once In A While from their self-tiled debut album from 1994 went all the way to #2 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Throughout the 90's they had a lot of success on the charts, but they haven't been able to recapture that same type of success in the 2000's. There last top 10 hit was 1999's There You Have It, which peaked at #4.
The main reason for this was the untimely death from skin cancer of vocalist/guitarist Van Stephenson in April 2001. They've had a couple of different lead singers since Van's death, but unfortunately, they haven't been able to make it back to the top of the charts. Here's the video for their #2 hit from 1994, Every Once In A While. Enjoy!

Gary Allan's new album Living Hard hits stores today. His first single from the album, Watching Airplanes, is currently sitting at #22 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Gary's last top five hit on the charts was last year's Life Ain't Always Beautiful, which peaked at #4 on the charts. I'm not sure if Watching Airplanes will make it that high, but it is a good song. For now, enjoy Life Ain't Always Beautiful. Enjoy!

The Kentucky Headhunters burst onto the country scene back in 1989 with their debut album called Pickin' on Nashvile which went double platinum. They had four big singles from the album with the biggest being their top 10 hit Oh Lonesome Me.
The original lineup split up after 1992, and they haven't been able to match the same type of success they had from their first few albums. Brothers Doug and Ricky Lee Phelps left the band in '92 to form the group Brother Phelps. They had one hit single called Let Go, and then they split up. Doug rejoined the Headhunters and replaced Ricky Lee as lead vocalist.
Their latest album of original material is 2005's Big Boss Man, and the first single from that album is also called Big Boss Man. It has more of a southern rock vibe than country. Enjoy!

Last night on Dancing With the Stars, Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter Miley, aka Hannah Montana, performed his newest single, Ready, Set, Don't Go. It was a great performance, and I have a feeling that their duet version of the song is going to be a big hit. Judge for yourself. Enjoy!

Steve Earle has had one helluva ride to get to where he is today. He just released a new album this year called Washington Square Serenade. His last single to chart was 1990's The Other Kind.
Steve's addiction to heroin has been well-documented. From Wikipedia.com, "Earle had been a drug user since an early age, and was addicted to heroin for many years. By the time of his 1990 album "The Hard Way", it started to become clear that the drugs were seriously affecting him. In 1993, his drug problems resulted in him effectively stopping performing and recording for two years, a period he refers to as his "vacation in the ghetto".
He eventually ended up in jail on drug and firearms charges. Kicking the drug habit while in jail, Earle came out a new man and released two albums within 18 months of his release in late 1994. His comeback album, the acoustic Train A Comin', was nominated for the "Best Contemporary Folk Album" Grammy Award in 1996."
Lately, besides releasing a new album, he has a recurring role on the HBO series The Wire where he plays a recovering drug addict. My favorite song by Steve is his 1986 single Someday. I used to love to ride around in my car in high school and listen to his Guitar Town cassette, and Someday was my favorite song on the tape. Enjoy!

Starting today, I am going to be featuring a new segment on the blog called "Where Are They Now?" every Tuesday. Today's feature is about David Lee Murphy. In 1995, David Lee exploded on the scene with his top 10 hit Party Crowd and his first and only #1 single, Dust On The Bottle. His last album was released in 2004. What David has been up to lately is doing what he does best - Writing Songs. Here are just a few of the monster hits he's written lately:
He's also still playing shows occasionally, but writing is his first love and it's what's paying the bills... Enjoy both videos!
