Taylor was one of the few country singers asked to perform on the American Music Awards last week. She definitely capitalized on the opportunity. She performed White Horse, a track off her new album Fearless, and as usual, she did a fantastic job. White Horse is scheduled to be her next country single, and it's already been released as a pop single, and is currently sitting at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Enjoy!
P.S. Amazon.com has Taylor's new album on sale right now for only $6.99. That's unheard of. Who knows how long that price will last, so if you haven't picked up a copy of her CD yet, now is the time to get it.
Our featured cover artist of the week, Joe Beerens brought the Randy Rogers Band to my attention today. I've heard this song on XM Radio a few times over the last few months. It's a really good song, and the lead singer's voice reminds me of a mix between Steve Earle and Gary Allan.
This song is called In My Arms Instead, and it's the first single from their self-titled fourth studio album Randy Rogers Band. It was released as a single back in August, and so far, it's peaked at #52 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Thanks for the suggestion Joe. And, if you haven't watched Joe's cover of Brad Paisley's Waitin' On A Woman, please give it a look. It's a great cover. Enjoy!
It's that time of the year when various artists start releasing Christmas and Holiday albums. Many times, these albums are a dime a dozen, but Faith Hill's new album, Joy to the World, is a keeper. It's really good, and A Baby Changes Everything, the first single to be released from the album, is a wonderful song. I think you'll really enjoy this as well as the entire album.
P.S. Is it me, or does her hair at this part in the video remind you of the Farrah Fawcett wave?
I'm not dissing it. I think she looks great. I just had a flashback to the 70's when I saw hair... Enjoy the video and happy holidays to you all!
For the week of December 6, 2008, Taylor Swift's new album Fearless spends it's second week atop the Billboard Hot Country Albums chart. Here is the complete top 25 for the week. For more information on each album, just click on the album's name.
The one to watch for next week: Zac Brown Band's The Foundation, which debuted at #3 this week!
*Certified Gold means the record label has shipped over 500,000 copies of the album. Certified Platinum means the record label has shipped over 1,000,000 copies of the album.
A few weeks ago, we saw Brooks & Dunn with special guest Reba McEntire perform Cowgirls Don't Crylive on the 2008 CMA Awards. Today, we're featuring their new music video for the song. Currently, Cowgirls Don't Cry is sitting at #17 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Enjoy!
I've watched a ton of videos of regular people like you and me covering some of country's biggest hits, and this is one of the best covers I've heard in a while. It's a perfect cover to kick off a new feature I'm going to showcase once a week. Every Friday, I'm going to feature a new cover song by an anonymous singer. This week's cover is by Joe Beerens, and he's covering Brad Paisley's Waitin' on a Woman. Not only does Joe sound great, but he does a great job on the guitar as well. Joe has also covered some other great songs. You can check out all of his covers on his YouTube page.
If you'd like to submit a video for consideration for our weekly cover video, please send me an email with either the link to the video or the actual video. Every month, I'm going to have our visitors vote on their favorite cover, and at the end of the year, we'll have a vote for the best cover of the year. So, enjoy our first entry. It's Joe Beerens' cover of Brad Paisley's Waitin' On A Woman. Great job Joe! Enjoy.
Now this is sweet! Atlanta's very own, the Zac Brown Band, has hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Country charts with their first single, Chicken Fried. This time last year, Zac and the boys were just a fantastic band to see live here in Atlanta. My how times have changed. Now, they have a major record deal with Atlantic Records, and they have a #1 single. That's awesome! I'm so proud of these guys. I love it when a local band that has been playing live shows for years finally gets the recognition they deserve. Congrats Zac! Here is the complete top 25 for the week:
Since leaving Trick Pony and striking out on her own, Heidi Newfield has really made a name for herself over the last year. Johnny & June, her first single from her debut album What Am I Waiting For, peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot Country charts, and her second single is called Cry, Cry ('Til the Sun Shines), and it's currently sitting at #53 on the charts. This performance is from CMT's Unplugged at Studio 330 series. Enjoy!
I really like this song. It's Josh Turner's latest single called Everything Is Fine. It's the title track to his 2007 Everything Is Fine album. It's #27 on the Billboard Hot Country charts this week. His last five singles have all peaked within the top 20 on the charts, and I'm pretty confident this one will as well. Enjoy!
Alan Jackson's latest single is called Country Boy. It's the third single from his latest album Good Time. It's already sitting at #14 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Here's Alan performing the song live at the recent CMT Giants concert event. He's joined on stage by Brad Paisley, George Strait and Dierks Bentley. This is a fantastic version of the song. Enjoy!
It's hard to turn on any country radio station right now without hearing Jamey Johnson's hit single In Color. Here's Jamey performing an acoustic version of the song from CMT's Unplugged at Studio 330. In Color has peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot Country charts so far. Enjoy!
Taylor Swift's Love Story remains at #1 this week on the Billboard Hot Country charts. And, Taylor's new album, Fearless, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums charts and on the Billboard 200 Album charts. This is a big week for Ms. Swift. Here is the complete top 25 for the week:
Hank Jr.'s never been one to conform to the norm in country music, and Bartender Song (Sittin' At A Bar) is another example. Earlier this year, he teamed up with Rehab to record a country version of Rehab's song Bartender Song (Sittin' At A Bar). Enjoy!
Our very own Tim McGraw was on Saturday Night Live last night. Tim told CMT News earlier this week, "So far now, it's fun. I'm sure my nerves will get bundled up a little bit when the day comes, but the guys are great. All the cast and the people working on the show make it really as easy for you as they can, but there's a certain 'scared-ness' that comes with doing live stuff." I think he did a pretty good job. Here are some of his skits from last night. I loved the 007 Casino Showdown skit. It's a skit I could see Larry the Cable guy doing. Enjoy!
P.S. Is it just me, or has Tim suddenly grown a lot of hair?
In 2003, Charlie Daniels released his album Redneck Fiddlin' Man. One of the songs on the album was Southern Boy, which he recorded with Travis Tritt. It peaked at #51 on the Billboard Hot Country charts, and the video was played heavily on both CMT and GAC. It's a classic Charlie Daniels tune with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of southern pride. Enjoy!
Jewel's third single from her first country album Perfectly Clear is called Till It Feels Like Cheating. So far, it's sitting at #57 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Her first country single, Stronger Woman, was a top 20 hit, peaking at #13, but her second single, I Do only made it to #38, and I'm not sure if this one will even make it into the top 40. Jewel's a gifted singer-songwriter, but she's still not yet being fully embraced by country radio. I think if she stays with the country format for another album, her songs will all start charting a lot higher. Enjoy!
I've mentioned before that Cross Canadian Ragweed is one of my favorite bands. If you ever get a chance to see them live, take advantage of it. They put on a fantastic live show. Late Last Night was a track off their 2005 Garage album. It didn't chart on the country charts, but it's a fan favorite at concerts. Enjoy!
The votes have been counted, and Carrie Underwood's performance of her #1 single Just a Dream was chosen by our visitors as the top performance from the 2008 CMA Awards. Carrie received 38% of the votes with Miranda Lambert coming in second with 20% and Kellie Pickler coming in third with 12%. Here are the complete results as well as a look back at the top three performances. Thanks to everyone who voted and congratulations Carrie!
Carrie Underwood - 202 votes (38%)
Miranda Lambert - 108 votes (20%)
Kellie Pickler - 64 votes (12%)
Brooks and Dunn w/Reba McEntire - 34 votes (6%)
Trace Adkins - 27 votes (5%)
Jason Aldean - 24 votes (4%)
Darius Rucker - 23 votes (4%)
Keith Urban/Brad Paisley & Taylor Swift - 22 votes each (4%)
Earlier this year, I featured Rissi Palmer's official music video for her single No Air. Here's Rissi performing the song live and unplugged courtesy of CMT's Unplugged at Studio 330. I think it's just a matter of time before the world starts taking notice of Rissi. She's got a fantastic voice. No Air was included on later presses of Rissi's self-titled debut album. Enjoy!
Brad and Keith opened up the 2008 CMA Awards by performing their hit single Start a Band. Here's the music video they shot for the song. Currently, Start A Band is sitting at #8 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Amazingly, this is Brad's 19th top ten country hit in a row and Keith's 17th! These two guys have been on fire ever since they strapped on a guitar. Enjoy!
Unlike the majority of the other acts who performed live at the 2008 CMA Awards, Sugarland opted to perform a new song rather than their current single Already Gone. They performed Love, which is going to be their third official single from their latest album Love on the Inside. Enjoy!
P.S. Don't forget to vote for your favorite performance from the show. You can vote on the poll at the top left of the site. The poll is open until 7pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
Joey & Rory are a husband and wife team who came in third place this year on CMT's Can You Duet reality show competition. They just released their first album called The Life Of A Song in October, and the first single is called Cheater, Cheater. It's currently at #37 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. I think this one might have some legs if it gets promoted enough to local radio. We'll see. Enjoy!
With only a couple of days left to vote, Ms. Carrie Underwood has a commanding lead as of 7:10 AM EST this Monday morning. If you haven't voted yet, please cast your vote on the poll at the top left of the site. The poll question is which performance from the 2008 CMA Awards was your favorite. If you missed the show, you can watch a number of the performances right here. Just look for the section on the left of the site with the header 2008 CMA Live Performances. Here are the results from first to last as of right now:
Recently, Taylor Swift teamed up with Def Leppard on CMT's Crossroads. They performed some of Def Leppard's biggest hits as well as Taylor's. My favorite performance from them both was actually Taylor's new single Love Story. She and Joe Elliott sounded great together on that song. I enjoyed it all, but they sounded really good together on that song. Enjoy!
Beginning today, I'm going to feature the top 25 Billboard Hot Country albums each Monday. For the week of November 22, 2008, Brad Paisley's new album Play debuted at #1. Play is Brad's sixth studio album and his fourth number one country album in a row. Here is the complete top 25 for the week ending November 22, 2008. For more information on each album, just click on the album's name. Enjoy!
*Certified Gold means the record label has shipped over 500,000 copies of the album. Certified Platinum means the record label has shipped over 1,000,000 copies of the album.
The quality isn't the best on this video, but it's the best one I've been able to find so far. It's Kid Rock performing his crossover hit All Summer Long live at the 2008 CMA Awards. He was joined on stage by hip hop artist Lil' Wayne. Enjoy!
P.S. Don't forget to vote for your favorite performance from the show. You can vote on the poll at the top left of the site. The poll is open until 7pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
Sara Evans has had a very interesting past couple of years. She seems to be as happy as ever. For those of you who didn't know, she married former University of Alabama quarterback Jay Barker back on June 14, 2008. This video was shot from a concert in Birmingham, Alabama back in May. I went to school with Jay, and I can tell you, he's a great guy, and now that he's married to Sara, he's also a very lucky guy. At the end of this video, they introduce their seven children to the crowd. Enjoy!
This was a cool idea from ABC. Backstage, they set up a Thank You Cam for each of the winner's to thank anyone they'd like. The first on the video is George Strait. After watching George, you can click on the other artists and view their videos right here. Enjoy!

Lady Antebellum won the New Artist of the Year award at the 2008 CMA Awards. They also performed their hit single from earlier this year called Love Don't Live Here Anymore. They did a great job. Enjoy!

This was my favorite part of the 2008 CMA Awards. Shania Twain has been out of the country spotlight now for about four years. She re-appeared at the end of the show Wednesday night to present the Entertainer of the Year award, which Kenny Chesney won. My favorite part of the night was when Kenny walked on stage and looked back at Shania and said simply, "You look really good." Yes, she did. Enjoy!

Kenny teamed up with the Wailers (Bob Marley's band) to perform his #1 single Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven at the 2008 CMA Awards. They also treated the crowd to a great version of Marley's Three Little Birds at the end of the song. Enjoy!

Kellie Pickler performed Best Days Of Your Life at the 2008 CMA Awards, and I definitely think this was one of the best performances of the night. Last year, she brought the crowd to tears with her single I Wonder, and this year, I think she took a lot of people by surprise because of both her outfit and her performance. She looked amazing and did a fantastic job. Enjoy!

Jason performed his new single She's Country at the 2008 CMA Awards. I've liked all of Jason's songs so far in his career, but this is the first song he's released that I'm not crazy about. It's not bad, and he does a great job performing it, but I don't think it's going to be a huge hit like some of his earlier songs. But, I've been wrong before, so it could turn out to be a big hit. We'll see. Enjoy!

Martina McBride is often overlooked these days due to the popularity of some of country's young starlets like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, but she can still belt out a tune with the best of them. This performance from the 2008 CMA's is a great example. Martina can definitely sing!

In addition to performing Start A Band with Keith Urban, Brad Paisley also performed his #1 single Waitin' On A Woman at the 2008 CMA Awards. Between this performance, his performance with Keith and hosting the show with Carrie Underwood, Mr. Paisley was a busy, busy guy. Enjoy!

Brooks & Dunn performed their latest single Cowgirls Don't Cry at the 2008 CMA Awards, and they brought out a special guest to sing the song with them: the one and only Reba McEntire. They did a great job, but it was a pretty subdoed performance because the song is so mellow.

In addition to opening up the 2008 CMA Awards show with a great performance of his duet with Brad Paisley called Start A Band, Keith also performed his newest single called Sweet Thing, which is currently sitting at #30 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Enjoy!

The very talented Miranda Lambert performed her new single, More Like Her at the 2008 CMA Awards last Wednesday night. As usual, she did a fantastic job. And, since she's dating Blake Shelton and was sitting next to him during the show, I'm sure she was feeling pretty good by the time she took the stage. Why? Because it's well known that Blake likes to carry a flask with him because there aren't any servers coming around serving drinks during the show. Enjoy!

Keith and Brad got the party started on Wednesday night by performing their single Start A Band, which moved up to #8 on the Billboard Hot Country charts this week. Their dueling guitar solo at the end of the song was awesome. Enjoy!

There were a lot of great performances at the 2008 CMA Awards, but none of them were as emotional as Carrie Underwood's performance of her #1 single, Just A Dream. She was introduced by Leslie Ponder, a brave young woman who lost her husband in Afghanistan back in 2005. Carrie was visibly moved at the end of her performance. Great job Carrie!

At the 2008 CMA Awards, Taylor Swift performed her #1 country single Love Story. She did a great job, even changing clothes in the middle of the song. This is raw footage shot by someone in the crowd. They actually did a great job of holding the camera very still, and the audio is great. As soon as I find the actual footage of her performance, I'll post it as well. Enjoy!

If you missed CMT's Red Carpet Special from the 2008 CMA Awards last night, don't worry, you can watch it all right here in six different videos that take you from the beginning of the Red Carpet Special all the way up to minutes before the show. CMT always does a great job, and last night was no exception.
Katie Cook and Lance Smith hosted the Red Carpet special. In the videos, you'll see their interviews with Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, Darius Rucker, Trace Adkins, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jake Owen, Kid Rock, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, Reece Witherspoon and many others. It was a great special, and I hope you have time to watch each video. I think you'll really enjoy them.
Fresh off her fantastic performance of Love Story last night at the 2008 CMA Awards, Taylor's Love Story just became her 2nd number one Billboard Hot Country single in a row and her third overall. Here is the complete top 25 for the week:
