Country Music News From Atlanta

Every morning on my way to work, I listen to Atlanta's Country Music Show on Kicks 101.5 with Cadillac Jack, Kristen Gates and Jim Vann. This morning during Kristen's Nitty Gritty from Music City segment, she was talking about Toby Keith's first time he heard himself on the radio.

Toby was on a tour bus with Shania Twain traveling through Bowling Green, KY way back in 1993 when he had just released his first self-titled album. He and Shania were sitting in the lounge of the bus when his first single, Should've Been a Cowboy came on the radio. He said Shania started jumping up and down and almost peed in her pants when it came on, and he was speechless. Not a bad place to be when you first hear your song...On a tour bus with Shania Twain.

Toby took that song all the way to #1 on the Billboard Country charts that year. Cadillac Jack chimed in that when he was in Myrtle Beach, SC before coming here to Atlanta, Toby played a little bar along the beach, and played that song three times during the night because it was so big back then.

Just a little nitty gritty from my friends at KICKS 101.5 here in Atlanta. In honor of Toby and Shania, here are a couple of videos from them. The first is Toby's #1 hit from 2005, As Good As I Once Was, and the second is Shania's 1998 #1 single, Honey I'm Home. Enjoy!
