Happy Birthday Steve Earle - Watch Some Of The Hardcore Troubadour's Best Videos

I'm one of Steve Earle's biggest fans. I've featured numerous videos from the hardcore troubadour over the last few years, and I'd like to wish him a happy birthday.

PBS Fast Focus Short Featuring Steve Earle

I've seen some of FastFocusTV.com's shorts on PBS before, but I had never seen this one on Steve Earle until I found it today. This is an interesting clip because it was filmed in 1986 when Earle was enjoying the tremendous success of his Guitar Town album, but was just about to enter the worst years of his life in regards to his drug addiction. It's chilling in the video to hear him talk about finding balance in his life. His music and voice though are incredible. I completely wore out my Guitar Town cassette. (Literally... the tape was shredded from fast forwarding and rewinding Guitar Town and Someday, my two favorites from the album)

If you don't own Guitar Town, I highly recommend you pick up a copy. It's that good. You probably want to get the CD now though, rather than the cassette. :)

An Amazing Live Performance From Steve Earle - Guitar Town and Hillbilly Highway

Steve Earle is one of my favorite country artists. I wore out his Guitar Town cassette* by playing it over and over again back when I was in high school. The title track, Guitar Town was my favorite song. Here he is performing that song as well as Hillbilly Highway live. Enjoy!



P.S. For those of you who are too young to remember, here's what a cassette tape used to look like. This is what we used to play in our Sony Walkman. Ahh... the good ole' days of rewinding music.

In 1988, Steve Earle released his album Copperhead Road, and the first single of the same name actually appealed more to rock fans than country fans. It peaked at #10 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts, making it his highest charting single to date on the rock charts. It's sense become a fan favorite though among Earle's country and rock fans alike. Enjoy!

I'm a huge fan of Steve Earle's. I played his 1986 Guitar Town cassette so much that it literally shredded to pieces. Guitar Town is Steve's highest charting single to date. It peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Steve's still traveling around the country playing live. Enjoy!

Where Are They Now? Steve Earle - Someday

Steve Earle has had one helluva ride to get to where he is today. He just released a new album this year called Washington Square Serenade. His last single to chart was 1990's The Other Kind.

Steve's addiction to heroin has been well-documented. From Wikipedia.com, "Earle had been a drug user since an early age, and was addicted to heroin for many years. By the time of his 1990 album "The Hard Way", it started to become clear that the drugs were seriously affecting him. In 1993, his drug problems resulted in him effectively stopping performing and recording for two years, a period he refers to as his "vacation in the ghetto".

He eventually ended up in jail on drug and firearms charges. Kicking the drug habit while in jail, Earle came out a new man and released two albums within 18 months of his release in late 1994. His comeback album, the acoustic Train A Comin', was nominated for the "Best Contemporary Folk Album" Grammy Award in 1996."

Lately, besides releasing a new album, he has a recurring role on the HBO series The Wire where he plays a recovering drug addict. My favorite song by Steve is his 1986 single Someday. I used to love to ride around in my car in high school and listen to his Guitar Town cassette, and Someday was my favorite song on the tape. Enjoy!
