A few weeks ago, I told you about Big Kenny and his journey down to Haiti to search for his friend who was in Haiti at the time of the quake. Big Kenny - Walks The Talk - Follow His Search For A Friend In Haiti

Big Kenny doesn't just talk about loving everybody, he lives it. Big Kenny's been down in Haiti looking for a friend who's been missing since the earthquakes devastated most of the small island nation. Here's exactly why Big Kenny is down in Haiti via his Flickr account:

Big Kenny left for Haiti to join the search for his missing friend and the CEO of SunEPI , Walt Ratterman. Walt was promoting renewable energy projects in rural parts of Haiti and went missing after the January 12th earthquake.

Big Kenny arrived in the Dominican Republic along with a crew of 10 doctors and a rescue team. They crossed the border into Haiti and dispersed amongst the Port-au-Prince area providing aid and medical assistance along the way. Big Kenny is currently at the Hotel Montana, where Walt was last seen. He is along side the Virginia Task Force 1 (VATF-1), Fairfax County, Virginia's urban search and rescue team, who's plan is to stay until every human being is accounted for.

He continues to relay information and share photos from the disaster area.

On This Day In 2002, Big Kenny Was In Major Debt And Down to His Last Dollar

I don't know Big Kenny personally (except virtually through Twitter), but I've gotta think that December 31st is always a very emotional day for him. On this day back in 2002, Kenny was in debt over $140,000 and he proceeded to lose most of his last $200 playing blackjack in a casino. He gave the dealer a $20 tip and left with one dollar in his pocket. Obviously, Big Kenny managed to not only turn his life around, but he's managed to entertain and more importantly, inspire countless fans around the world. That experience of leaving the casino with only one dollar inspired him to write Tim McGraw's future number one hit Last Dollar (Fly Away). Said Kenny about that night, "That night as I looked down at the sole breaking off of my shoe it hit me like a ton of bricks, but with that realization came the freedom of knowing that I also had nothing to lose."

Album Review - Big Kenny's The Quiet Times Of A Rock And Roll Farm Boy

I'm really proud of Big Kenny.  His latest solo project, The Quiet Times of a Rock and Roll Farm Boy is receiving some well-deserved positive reviews.  While perusing Billboard.com today, I came across this review from a few weeks ago:

In many ways, Big Kenny and John Rich-who make up country duo Big & Rich-are the perfect couple. But Big Kenny's new album, "The Quiet Times of a Rock and Roll Farm Boy," is a thoughtful, often profound sojourn into musical independence-his former major label reportedly rejected every solo project he turned in. That frustration led to the defiant "Free Like Me," which warns, "Don't fit me inside your expectations/You'll never know everything I can be." Big Kenny's musical kinship with Rich is evident on "Wake Up," in which the singer demonstrates moving poetry and surprisingly head-turning lead vocals. 

The lead single, "Long After I'm Gone," is a midtempo stop-and-smell-the-roses anthem, while "To Find a Heart" may well be the album's sleeper hit. Sonically, "Farm Boy" puts the artist's influences on intriguing display (he cites Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, the Beatles, Queen, Bob Marley and Bill Withers, among others), yet manages the often elusive feat of a cohesive, articulate and entertaining experience from first note to last. --Wade Jessen

I love this album. It's actually one of my favorite albums of the year so far. What's even cooler is Kenny put together a video album featuring all of the songs. I featured it a few weeks ago, and if you missed it, I'd highly recommend you check it out.

If you don't own the album yet, I'd recommend you pick it up. It'd be a great stocking stuffer for Christmas.

Some of you have asked me what Big Kenny's been up to lately while John is supporting his solo career. Well, in true Big Kenny style, Kenny's been off on a big adventure. Kenny's the Chief Imagination Officer for Love Everybody, and he's been over in Sudan trying to help spread some love. I applaud him for his efforts.

Last year, Hank Williams, Jr. hooked up with Van Zant, Gretchen Wilson and Big & Rich for this song, That's How They Do It In Dixie. It's a really good song and a great video, but it didn't do very well on the charts only hitting #36 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. But, it doesn't matter to me where it charted, I like the song and the video. Enjoy!

Gretchen Wilson - Come to Bed and Redneck Woman

Gretchen Wilson exploded onto the country music scene back in 2004 when her debut single, Redneck Woman, went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. So far, it's her only #1 hit. Her latest single is One Of The Boys, and earlier this year, she released Come to Bed, which was her first single off her third album, One of the Boys. It stalled at #32 on the charts, but the video features a slender and much sexier Gretchen than any of her previous videos. By the way, Big and Rich's John Rich lends his voice to the song, and he and Big Kenny had cameo appearances in Redneck Woman. Enjoy both videos!

Big & Rich - Lost In This Moment

When the new Billboard Hot Country charts is released this week, Big & Rich will finally be on top with their first #1 single, Lost In This Moment. This song was actually written a long time ago by John Rich, Big Kenny and Keith Anderson. The boys pitched the song to everyone they could in Nashville, but no one would cut the song, so both Big & Rich and Keith Anderson included it on their new cd's. John and Kenny obviously beat Keith to the punch as Keith's version isn't due out until later this year. It'll definitely be a hard act to follow. Enjoy the video!
