#1 Flashback - Toby Keith - My List - Number One Today Back in 2002

My List was the last of three number one singles from Toby's 2001 Pull My Chain album. This video debuted shortly after the September 11th attacks and features footage of the attacks at the beginning of the video. The song's about a man who has a list of things to do each day. He does what needs to be done each day, putting off what he really would like to do — spend time with his family. Eventually, he changes his mind and decides to put his family first, stating "Start livin', that's the next thing on my list". Enjoy!

In the early 2000's, Toby Keith was on fire. Who's Your Daddy became Toby's sixth number one single in a row on this day back in 2002. It was his 10th number one country single overall. Toby Keith's Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American) was written after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and Toby received a lot of criticism because of the line, "Cause we'll put a boot in your ass, It's the American way." Personally, I loved this song then, and love it now, and that's why it's our 17th video in our Veteran's Day Video Marathon.

Toby Keith's Moving Tribute To His Friend Wayman Tisdale - Cryin' For Me (Wayman's Song)

In my opinion, Wayman Tisdale was the greatest collegiate basketball player to ever play for the University of Oklahoma. He was the first player ever be named to the All-American team by the A.P. in his freshman, sophomore and junior years. He also had a very successful 12-year professional career. In addition to basketball, Wayman was an accomplished jazz bass player who recorded eight albums, with the 2001 release Face to Face going all the way to No. 1 on Billboard's contemporary jazz chart.

Unfortunately, Tisdale was diagnosed with cancer in his knee and it was eventually amputated, but he never let the loss of his leg get him down. He was fitted with a prosthesis, and it only took him about one month to be acclimated to the leg. (It normally takes up to six months for normal amputees to become acclimated.)

Tragically, when it appeared he was going to make a full recovery, his life was cut way too short this past May at the tender age of 44. His friend Toby Keith dedicated his latest album American Ride in his honor, and wrote the song Cryin' For Me (Wayman's Song) as a tribute to Tisdale. Wow! Toby's pissed. You can feel the air get sucked out of the room when Toby starts an expletive-filled rant against Peter Cooper, the reporter from the Tennessean, who wrote the article about Ethan Hawke's Rolling Stone article referencing an incident between Toby and Kris Kristofferson.

Quote of the Day From Toby Keith: When You Climb the Flagpole The Highest, The More People Can See Your Butt.

Toby Keith has always spoken his mind, and today's quote of the day is no exception. The quote was actually taken from an article on CMT.com today. Toby was responding to allegations in an upcoming article in Rolling Stone magazine written by actor Ethan Hawke. Hawke alleges that Toby and Kris Kristofferson had a heated exchange back in 2003 at Willie Nelson's 70th birthday concert in New York City. Toby says the allegations are 100 percent false.

Here's an excerpt from the article:

Although Hawke does not mention Keith by name, the story refers to "one of country music's brightest stars" who "at that moment in time ... had a monster radio hit about bombing America's enemies back into the Stone Age." It describes an exchange at the Beacon Theater in a room filled with an array of musicians including Elvis Costello, Wyclef Jean, Norah Jones, Shelby Lynne and Paul Simon.

According to the Rolling Stone article, the star in question emerged from the theater's basement to wish Nelson a happy birthday before telling Kristofferson, "None of that lefty shit out there tonight, Kris." The report goes on to say that Kristofferson replied, "What the f**k did you just say to me?" and that Kristofferson followed it up by asking, "You ever worn your country's uniform?" Kristofferson reportedly then told the star, "You heard the question. You just don't like the answer," and asked again, "Have you ever served your country?' The answer is, no, you have not. Have you ever killed another man? Huh? Have you ever taken another man's life and then cashed the check your country gave you for doing it? No, you have not. So shut the f**k up!"

Later in the article:

"Kris and I are good friends and have come close to working on a couple of projects," Keith said. "I don't have to defend myself on this. This is 100 percent fiction. And I'd bet a million dollars on a lie detector test that this didn't happen."

Referring to the Rolling Stone story, Keith said, "So whoever he's talking about that he left nameless, there was a reason he left them nameless. He was insinuating me, which means he left it nameless because he doesn't want to deal with that."

As for Hawke, Keith said, "I don't care who he is. I don't know who he is. But you don't want to be sitting in a restaurant and have somebody come up and tap you on the shoulder and ask you a bunch of questions, and you can always say, 'I didn't say it was you.'

"You know, when I call somebody out, I say their name. So, you can talk to Kris and you can talk to Willie. ... They'll all laugh and say it didn't happen. ... Somebody's trying to get fiction in whatever magazine to make themselves a story. But if anybody does have anything to take this any further, I'm available. ... They can find out the truth."

And the best part of the article:

Connecting his recollections of the evening to the Rolling Stone story, Keith said, "For somebody to use their star power to get in and then create some shit like this is just unfortunate for everybody. But, you know what? When you climb the flagpole the highest, the more people can see your butt."
