This video is included in the video playlist I created for the 2009 ACM Awards, but I felt it deserved it's own post just in case you missed it. Carrie looked ten feet tall in this dress, and I'm sure she felt ten feet tall considering she knocked Kenny Chesney off as the Entertainer of the Year. Enjoy!
If you missed last night's 2009 Academy of Country Music Awards, you missed one of the better award shows in quite some time. There were a number of surprise winners as well as some fantastic live performances. In the video playlist below, you'll see a very moving performance by Trace Adkins and the West Point Cadet Glee Club singing Til The Last Shot's Fired (iTunes MP3) as well as Taylor Swift's "magical" entrance. As more videos become available, I'll continue adding to the playlist, so keep checking back often. Here's a rundown of who won last night:
Artist of the Decade: George Strait Entertainer of the Year: Carrie Underwood - Huge Surprise - Kenny Chesney won this award the last four years in a row. (See her acceptance speech in the playlist below) Song of the Year: "In Color" – Jamey Johnson – Jamey Johnson, Lee Thomas Miller, James Otto - Surprising, but well-deserved. Single of the Year: "You're Gonna Miss This" – Trace Adkins Album of the Year: Fearless – Taylor Swift - I was hoping for King George on this one. Top Male Vocalist: Brad Paisley Top Female Vocalist: Carrie Underwood Top Vocal Duo: Sugarland Top Vocal Group: Rascal Flatts Top New Arist: Julianne Hough - Another surprise - I was pulling for Zac Brown Band Top New Male Vocalist: Jake Owen Top New Female Vocalist: Julianne Hough Top New Duo or Vocal Group: Zac Brown Band Video of the Year: "Waitin' on a Woman" – Brad Paisley Vocal Event of the Year: "Start a Band" – Brad Paisley and Keith Urban Crystal Milestone Award: Taylor Swift, Jennifer Nettles
Local boys, the Zac Brown Band, have already won the Top New Duo or Vocal Group award at the 2009 ACM Awards, which airs live tonight from Las Vegas on CBS. I'm so happy for the guys. They've paid their dues for years, and it's about time they got the recognition they deserve. A couple of other awards were also already announced:
Jake Owen won the Top New Male Vocalist award and Julianne Hough won the Top New Female Vocalist award. And, if you missed my post from a couple of days ago, Brad Paisley's Waitin' on a Woman won Video of the Year and Brad and Keith Urban's Start a Band won Vocal Event of the Year.
In honor of Zac and the boys win, here's a look at the video for the song that started it all them, Chicken Fried. Enjoy!
The 2009 ACM Awards is this Sunday, April 5th in Las Vegas. However, some awards have already been given out. And, for the purposes of this site, they're the most important ones. They are Video of the Year and the Vocal Event category. Brad Paisley won them both. First, his video for Waitin' on a Woman featuring Andy Griffith won Video of the Year, and then his collaboration with Keith Urban on Start a Band won the Vocal Event award. Congratulations Brad and Keith! And, don't forget to watch the ACM's live on Sunday night on CBS. Enjoy the two winning videos...
