Alabama Governor Raids Country Crossing At 4AM This Morning In True Barney Fife Style

Remember a few weeks ago when I told you about the Grand Opening of Country Crossing in Dothan, AL? Well, you wouldn't believe what's going on down there right now. In addition to the awesome country music entertainment facilities, Country Crossing also has Bingo Machine gambling. And, in a scene similar to Barney Fife and Andy raiding moonshine stills, the Governor of Alabama sent over 120 state trooper cars to Country Crossing around 4AM this morning to raid the place.

The problem was the owner had been tipped off that they were coming, and it was closed up, locked up and the power was off. Here's a news report about the event and what transpired as well as couple of videos shot by a local observer who was present at the event. I'm originally from Dothan, AL, and I can tell you from friends that still live there, Country Crossing is one of the best things that has happened to the city. Besides the thousands of new jobs created, the entire area has been infused with hundreds of thousands of dollars, and untold millions to come over the next few years.

And, more importantly for country music fans, it's an awesome venue that's set to attract some of the top names in the business. The developer is the same guy (Ronnie Gilley) who's behind Bama Jam, which is already one of the largest outdoor country music festivals in the world. It would really be a shame if the doors were shut on Country Crossing. I'll keep you posted as this story develops.

"This is the first time in history that 20 artists, with a combined 120 million record sales and 66 No. 1 hits, will perform in three days at one venue – all free to the public," adds Gilley. "You won’t have to go to a big city anymore to find high-caliber entertainment. We are bringing it right here."
Not bad for a small little southern town, huh?  By the way, if you do attend, don't miss Dothan's own Houston County, who'll be performing on Saturday at 5pm.  If you're not familiar with them, check out their video for their debut single I Can't Make It Rain.  I think you'll like it.
