Eric Church - Lightning

Today's video is from Eric Church. It's his new song called Lightning. This is his fifth single from his debut album, Sinners Like Me. This is the same album that spawned the hits, Guys Like Me, Sinners Like Me, How 'Bout You and Two Pink Lines. That's pretty good for a debut album. By the way, this video comes from a new source I've found online. There is a brief ad message at the beginning of the video, but I think it's worth it because the quality of the video is excellent. Enjoy!

Daily Country Music News Briefs - Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - Lead Story - A Special Concert for Rodney Atkins

Today's lead story is a good one for the holiday season. Rodney Atkins is putting on a concert for the Make-A-Wish foundation on December 2, 2007 to honor the memory of a little girl who succumbed to bone cancer at the age of 7.

Rodney met her when he read an article in the Detroit Free Press about the little girl and the girl mentioned that Rodney's song, If You're Going Through Hell was her favorite song. He flew to see her the next day and sat with her for about five hours. In this day and age of spoiled and pampered celebs, it nice to read some good news about them for a change.

Here's an excerpt from the article: Rodney visited on one condition: He didn't want any media attention. He wanted all of his energy to be devoted to Maddie. "He spent, like, five hours with her," Paul said. "He told me his plan was to come and stay with her until she was absolutely out of energy. He was staying until she tuckered out. I was really impressed with the man. He had a big heart." When Maddie went home to die, an autographed picture of Rodney was stuck to the wall, above her pillow.

CMA Awards 2007 - Winners

If you missed the CMA's last night, you missed a good show. Here are the winners from this year's event:

  • Entertainer of the Year: Kenny Chesney
  • Song of The Year: "Give it Away" - Bill Anderson and Jamey Johnson
  • Single of The Year: "Before He Cheats" - Carrie Underwood
  • Album of the Year: "It Just Comes Natural" - George Strait
  • Male Vocalist of the Year: Brad Paisley
  • Female Vocalist of the Year: Carrie Underwood
  • Vocal Duo of the Year: Sugarland
  • Vocal Group of the Year: Rascal Flatts
  • Musician of the Year: Jerry Douglas
  • Horizon Award: Taylor Swift
  • Musical Event of the Year: Tracy Lawrence with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw "Find Out Who Your Friends Are"
  • Music Video of the Year: "Online" - Brad Paisley
My thoughts on the awards and the show: A lot of the awards went to exactly who I thought they would like, Kenny as Entertainer of the Year, Brad Paisley's Online as Video of the Year, Carrie as Female Vocalist of the Year and Rascal Flatts as Vocal Group of the Year.

However, I was very surprised that Taylor Swift won the Horizon Award. Don't get me wrong, I really like Taylor and she has had a great year, but she beat out Rodney Atkins, who has had three #1 singles in a row and another song that's headed up the charts right now. That feat alone should have won Rodney the award.

The biggest surprise of the night to me though was Sugarland beating out Brooks & Dunn and Montgomery Gentry for Vocal Duo of the Year. I was sure Brooks & Dunn were going to win it again this year, but Jennifer and Kristian pulled off the upset and they were thrilled to say the least. I was so proud of the hometown duo!

Lastly, I can't help but wonder why Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Toby Keith were not nominated and weren't even asked to perform on this year's show. These three country music superstars have had a great year and definitely deserved a nomination at the very least.

I enjoyed the show, but I have to say that I enjoy the CMT Video Awards show much better. What about you?

For the week of November 10, 2007, Kenny Chesney's Don't Blink is the #1 song on the Billboard Hot Country charts for the third week in a row. The only song to drop out of the top five was Toby Keith's Love Me If You Can, which dropped out of the top 25. Garth Brooks' More Than a Memory moved back into the top five landing at #4 this week. Don't be surprised if it jumps back up to #1 again in the next few weeks. Here is the new top five for the week:
  1. Kenny Chesney - Don't Blink
