Ricky Van Shelton Officially Retired From The Road Today Back in 2006 In Order To Become A Simple Man

On this day back in 2006, Ricky Van Shelton hung up his traveling boots and wrote an open letter to his fans telling them he was retiring from the road. Ricky said he just wanted to be close to his wife Bettye and his family in Virgina. Nothing wrong with being 'A Simple Man'. It suits me just fine as well Ricky. Enjoy!

Donna Fargo - Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A. - Dedicated To All Our Tennessee Friends

While my car was getting pelted by rain this morning heading into work here in Atlanta, I stumbled across a new radio station here in Atlanta called 96.7 The Legend (If you love classic country, you'll love this station if you're here in the Atlanta area). The first song I heard was Donna Fargo's Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A. I thought about my friends up in Tennessee who've been burdened with horrendous weather over the last few days, and I thought this song might bring a smile to your face as you wake up this morning. It'll be over soon and the sun will shine again. Wherever you are this morning, I hope you have a great day!

New Music From Sammy Kershaw - Better Than I Used To Be

It's been twelve years since Sammy Kershaw had a top ten country single. That song, Love Of My Life, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country charts way back in 1998. Since then, Sammy's went through multiple record labels, a divorce from Lorrie Morgan and a bankruptcy. Through it all, Sammy's continued to tour and record, and he's back with a new single called Better Than I Used To Be. It's probably not going to chart within the top 40, but I think it's a pretty good song. What do you think?

Here's a look back at Sammy's video for Love Of My Life:

Reba McEntire's New Album Keep On Loving You Is Certified Gold... Platinum Is Next!

Reba's latest album Keep On Loving You has been certified gold for shipments of over 500,000 copies. Join me in congratulating Reba, the hardest working country legend in country music today. Keep On Loving You has already spawned one number one hit for Reba with Consider Me Gone, a #11 hit with Strange, and the latest single, I Keep On Loving You is currently at #22, and I think it's got a shot at hitting number one as well.

P.S.  If you don't have a copy of the album yet, it's available at a discount on Amazon.  Also, if you haven't seen Reba's videos for the aforementioned three songs, click on each song name above to watch the video.  Enjoy!

Watch Reba McEntire's New Video For I Keep On Loving You

Reba's latest single, I Keep On Loving You was written by Ronnie Dunn and Terry McBride. It's currently at #22 on the Billboard Hot Country charts, and I look for it to continue it's march up the charts over the coming weeks.

I'm proud of Reba for continuing to put in the effort to make great music videos. A lot of artists these days are putting a renewed emphasis on music videos. For a while, music videos were pretty bland and/or simply filmed the artist singing the song live. In this video, a young couple is getting married, and the video spotlights the bride and groom, the bride's parents, grandparents and even a young boy who's smitten by the flower girl. Well done Reba. Enjoy the video!

Reba McEntire Gets Back To The Basics (And Her Cowboy Boots...)

Reba, pictured here with her sitcom 'family' is one of the biggest stars to ever grace a country stage, but she insists on being labeled as a plain ole' country gal. In this article from Lonokenews.net, Reba explains it this way:

"It’s real life with me. I am not the glamorous person people may think I am. People who know me know I’m not. I’m the same person I was growing up in Southeastern Oklahoma. One of the reasons my music has lasted as long as it has is because I am a person that they can relate to and my music is what they can relate to."

Later in the article, Reba also gets real when it comes to her look:
"I like what I’m wearing and how I’m wearing my hair," she said. "I wear my cowboy boots and they are more me than any other look I’ve ever had in my 33-year career. Everything that we’re doing now is more Reba than it was in the past. The things I did in the past were things I wanted to do to entertain me. After getting to do movies and TV, I realized the real me was just the simple Reba."

And that's what we all love about Reba. She's Reba and that's all we want her to be. If you'd like to read the entire article, go to this page on Lonokenews.net.

Johnny Cash - Ain't No Grave (Can Hold My Body Down)

If you haven't heard this song, please take a few minutes and listen to one of the last songs ever recorded by Johnny Cash. Ain't No Grave (Can Hold My Body Down) comes from American VI: Ain't No Grave, a posthumous album released yesterday. The recordings on this album were recorded at the same time as Johnny's American V: A Hundred Highways album, which was released in July 2006. These are two albums that should definitely be in your music collection. Enjoy!

World Premiere New Video - Alan Jackson - It's Just That Way

In this video for Alan Jackson's latest single It's Just That Way, everything seems off for this young man as he walks around town, but once he's with his lover, everything is back to normal. It's Just That Way is currently sitting at #22 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Alan's last single, I Still Like Bologna (great video), was his first single to fail to crack the top 20 on the country charts since The Blues Man back in 2000, and it was only his third single ever to fail to do so. The other was his debut single Blue Blooded Woman back in 1989. I have a feeling this one's definitely going to be a top ten hit. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Travis Tritt - Relive Two Of His Biggest Hits

Travis Tritt was born a few miles from my home here in Marietta, Georgia on this day back in 1963. Travis has scored five number one singles so far in his career, but two of my favorite songs of his didn't actually make it to number one. Here's A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares) and It's A Great Day To Be Alive both peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Enjoy this look back at two classics from Travis Tritt. Happy Birthday Travis!
